A Susan Kare MacOS triptych

alert icon from MacOS

alert icon from MacOS

  1. alert icon from MacOS
  2. watch icon from Mac OS
  3. bomb icon from MacOS

A trio of designs by Susan Kare from MacOS Classic rendered in cross stitch. All three were introduced in the very first release of MacOS back in 1984. As this was the first commercially available graphical user interface, these are among some of the very earliest ideas of what a mouse-driven world might look like. Many of the icons introduced in this OS remained throughout the entire lifespan of MacOS before OS X. The watch cursor icon is still in Leopard.

I’ve had these sitting around for a year if not longer. Having a great number of scraps of Aida fabric laying about and a few hours of free time I put them both to use in creating these. Then I set them aside and moved on to other projects. Now, a year later I’ve finally gotten around to finishing them, though not as I originally intended. I had planned to buy a large frame with multiple mats but ended up with these frames mostly on accident. Had I completed this as I originally intended I’d probably call this “Danger Time Bomb.”

Those are awesome! Ever think of selling them? hint, hint :)

Actually, I do have them up for sale in my Etsy shop. The next revision of this site (currently in testing) will make that much more obvious.

Well, I hadn’t exactly planned to keep things in stock per se. I tend to just put up the things I make, and I don’t usually make things more than once. I’d be happy to make another one though, and you can always request a custom item. These are all in 4×6 inch frames.
