Droll – Dragon Warrior monsters – 10/40

I love this guy. He’s my number one favorite monster from Dragon Warrior, possibly because he never made another appearance. A cave dwelling creature like the Druin, the Droll emerges from the darkness with a blank stare and gapped teeth. I like to imagine that beasts are necessarily evil, per se but just dumb. So dumb they don’t realize what they’re doing when they attack you. They’d might even be able to appeal to reason, were they not so stupid.

I just can’t help but stare at this guy and wonder what in the hell the artist was thinking. Is he supposed to be intimidating? There’s a certain element of tragedy in the Droll.
