Dragon Warrior monsters cross stitch 35: Stoneman

With Stoneman here we have moved into the final batch of monsters found only in the Dragonlord’s castle. These are monsters that most players have never fought to victory. They’re tough. Fighting them just uses up MP and healing items. By the time you meet them you no longer need the experience, much less the gold. It’s easier to just run away and head straight for the Dragonlord. As straight as you can anyway: Charlock is a hell of a maze.

Here’s the Stoneman. He’s the toughest Golem in the game. This is sensible as stone is typically thought to be stronger than clay or gold. He didn’t come out too bad, despite being another in the line of creatures with two shades of gray.

I realize as I finished this guy that I’ve made a mistake in my previous two Golem monsters. I’d stitched their eyes in blue as the images I’d downloaded had blue eyes. It would appear that they’re only blue because the sky behind them is blue—they’re outdoor monsters. Their eyes are actually transparent. I haven’t decided if I’ll pull those stitches yet.

The photo of Stoneman looks a bit different than the previous posts in the series. A couple of weekend back I built a cheapass DIY light tent out of a cardboard box, a few pieces of tissue paper, some poster board, and a couple of halogen work lamps. I think it’s working even with my little point & shoot camera. I don’t actually know what I’m doing vis-à-vis digital photo manipulation and I’m only using iPhoto to process these photos. I think they look better.
