Dragon Warrior monsters cross stitch 6: Scorpion

I’ve never really liked the Scorpion line all that much. Once you’ve fought Slimes, Drakees, and Ghosts a real-world creature — albeit an extremely large one — like a Scorpion seems a tad dull. You’ll run into these guys pretty frequently just south of Tantegel (the starting castle) and in desert areas. They can hit pretty hard when you first meet them, but quickly become a pushover.

While in the process of stitching this guy I got to look at the sprite in much more detail than I’d ever been able to previously. He’s got a lot of personality in his meager 42 × 33 pixels. Take a good look at his eyes. Even in so few pixels they managed to communicate the same squinty sideways glance that these monsters have to this day. I still think the Scorpion is a dull enemy, but he’s a masterfully drawn dull enemy.
